During the first half of 2008, the United States experienced a 3.5-percent decline in violent crimes on a year-on-year basis, continuing the trend of 2007, the FBI said on Monday.
Compared with the data for the same period in 2007, each of the four violent crimes (murder and non-negligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault), experienced a decrease nationwide, according to the FBI's newly-released Preliminary Semiannual Crime Statistics for 2008.
Murder declined 4.4 percent, aggravated assault 4.1 percent, forcible rape 3.3 percent, and robbery 2.2 percent during the period.
Other crimes such as burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft, also experienced a 2.5-percent decline between January and June last year.
Nationwide, reported cases of arson, which are tracked separately, declined 5.6 percent during the first half of 2008 compared with the same period in 2007. Source:Xinhua
