Chilean President Michelle Bachelet Tuesday met with political parties' chiefs to discuss the maritime lawsuit that Peru set against Chile at the Hague-based International Court of Justice (ICJ).

The president said at a press conference after the meeting that "Chile needs a single voice toward Peru's demand in order to impugn the current (maritime) limits at the International Court of Hague."

Peru last week presented a report on its maritime border dispute with Chile to the ICJ.

Peru has demanded Chile to return 38,000 km of sea in the Pacific Ocean. However, Chile insists the maritime borders were already established in former agreements. Peru argues that those are not border demarcation deals but fishing agreements.

Bachelet said on Tuesday that she had listened to the points of view from the politicians at the meeting.

"Toward the Peru's maritime demand...the government will act firm but at the same time in a flexible way," she said.

The Chilean Foreign Minister Mariano Fernandez had also begun on Friday a series of political consultations with the commission of Foreign Ministry and both chambers of the National Congress to discuss the issue.
