The United States said on Wednesday that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has ordered its nuclear monitors to leave the country.

"It's a step backward. We're obviously concerned about this," State Department spokesman Robert Wood told reporters.

However, the spokesman added, "as far as I know," the American monitors had not yet left the DPRK.

Fuming at the UN Security Council for condemning its missile launch, the DPRK ordered UN nuclear inspectors out of the country on Tuesday, saying it will restart its plutonium factory and vowed never to participate again in six-party nuclear negotiations.
