The U.S. government has deported more than 10,000 Hondurans this year, local media cited the Honduran authorities as saying Thursday.

According to the Center of Attention for the Returned Migrant, 10,157 Hondurans have been expelled by the U.S. side this year.

In 2008, the number of Hondurans driven out by the U.S. authorities was 68,000, said the Honduran Foreign Ministry, adding that figures in 2007, 2006 and 2005 were 22,000, 24,666 and 18,941 respectively.

The National Forum for the Migrations in Honduras predicted that the number will continue to rise.
