The Mexican government's comptroller, the Public Function Ministry, said on Wednesday it would investigate officials who gave permit to the establishment of a daycare center destroyed by a deadly fire last week in the northern state of Sonora.
The State health care provider, the Mexican Social Security Agency, which is responsible for supervising children care facilities, said it would cooperate fully with the public function ministry in its investigation.
A fire that started from a nearby store hit the center last Friday, killing 44 out of over 140 children there.
Initial investigations showed that the lack of emergency doors, fake ceilings, bad electrical installations and highly toxic products were among the reasons behind the fire, according to the Mexican General Prosecutor's Office.
