A former CIA agent was charged Tuesday in a federal court in Washington with one count of rape in Algeria, officials said.
Andrew Warren, 41, was accused of raping an unconscious Algerian woman last year when he was the CIA station chief in Algeria, Eric J. Boswell, Assistant Secretary of State for Diplomatic Security said.
He was fired by the spy agency earlier this year and surrendered to the federal court Tuesday.
If convicted, Warren faces up to life in prison.
The case is being investigated by the Diplomatic Security Service, which is the U.S. Department of State's law enforcement and security arm and is being prosecuted by attorneys from the U.S. Attorney's Office in Washington.
