The Los Angeles city agency that manages Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and two other airports launched a new online noise complaint system on Wednesday for residents living near the facilities.
The system, known as WebTrak, will be overseen by the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), which manages LAX and two nearby airports -- the Ontario International and Van Nuys airports, according to a statement from LAWA.
The system will allow users to identify loud airplanes flying in or out of the three airports and report them to LAWA on the organization's website, the statement said.
Using the system, the public will be able to identify loud airplanes by aircraft type, altitude, flight number and both the originating and destination airports. Users can then report loud airplanes using an online complaint form, said the statement.
"The new and improved features of our WebTrak system provide the public with additional user-friendly tools to understand how aircraft operate in the airspace and the noise from those operations," said Robert Freeman, LAWA's Environmental Services Division Manager.
"It demonstrates LAWA's continuing commitment to provide residents in neighboring communities with the means to quickly identify and report aircraft operations that cause them concern," Freeman added.
All flight information on the system will be delayed by 30 minutes out of security concerns, according to LAWA.
Users can access the system at www.lawa.org by clicking on the "Noise Management" link on the left-hand side of the page, the statement said.
