Ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya appointed in exile a new ambassadress to Nicaragua, Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Samuel Santos said on Tuesday.

Santos told reporters that Zelaya's Foreign Minister Patricia Rodas appointed a new ambassadress in Managua according to instructions given by Zelaya, whose government was toppled in a June 28 coup.

Patricia Rodas was the first minister replaced by the interim leader Roberto Micheletti.

Santos did not tell the name of the new ambassadress, but said the Nicaraguan government will continue to support Zelaya and extend its solidarity.

"We are people who host their brothers in need of international support. We also respect the decisions of the United Nations and the Organization of American States, which only recognize Zelaya as constitutional president of Honduras," Santos added.

Zelaya has returned to Nicaragua after a trip to Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador and those countries reaffirmed their support for Zelaya's reinstatement as Honduras' president.
