The Dominican Republic's President Leonel Fernandez met Wednesday with Vietnamese Minister of Construction Nguyen Hong Quang in an attempt to boost bilateral ties, information reaching here from Santo Domingo said Thursday.
According to a statement published Thursday by Dominican authorities, the president said that despite the geographical distance between the two countries, both were "united" historically. He also expressed the Dominican people's "admiration and great respect" for the Vietnamese.
Fernandez said that he may send a delegation to visit Vietnam at the invitation of the minister.
For his part, the Vietnamese minister said there was great potential for capital investment in the Dominican Republic.
During the visit, the two sides are expected to sign agreements on technology and education cooperation.
