President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva will pay an official visit to Britain on Nov. 4-5 to receive the Chatham House Prize as statesman of the year, the presidential office said Friday.
According to Chatham House, home of the British Royal Institute of International Affairs, the award was a recognition of Lula's contribution to international dialogue, the fight against poverty in his country, and Brazil's efforts to build consensus in multilateral economic and trade forums.
The Chatham House awards the prize annually to a statesperson that contributes significantly to improving international relations.
During his visit, Lula will participate in the opening ceremony of a Brazilian Development Bank office in London and attend a seminar on investment opportunities in Brazil
He will also meet with British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Queen Elizabeth II.
