A man walked into his own funeral shocking relatives and mourners, some of whom attempted to jump from windows of the funeral home where the ceremony was being held.
Ademir Jorge Goncalves, a Brazilian bricklayer, had been identified as the victim of a car crash on November 1. His funeral was scheduled for the following day known as Dia de Finados or the Day of the Dead. It is a day when Brazilians customarily remember loved ones who have died.
However, they were unaware that they had in fact identified the wrong man. Gonclaves had spent the night drinking Pinga, a type of Brazilian rum, at a bar near to where the crash occurred, but he was not the victim.
The 59-year-old bricklayer later received word of his untimely demise and imminent funeral and decided to head there himself. But on arriving at the Funeraria Rainha das Colinas funeral home guests became terrified.
"In my 10 years in this business, I have never witnessed a scene like this," said Natanael Honorato, manager of the funeral home in the Parana state.
The identity of the dead man was later identified after a family inquired about their son who was missing. On recognizing the body he was taken away for burial.
