The Mexican army seized over 12.3 tons of marijuana at a checkpoint in the country's northwestern state of Sinaloa, the army said on Monday.
Soldiers found 1,700 small packets of marijuana in an abandoned truck at the checkpoint in a village in Sinaloa, the army said.
Mexico has seized more marijuana than any other country in the world. In 2008, marijuana seizures made in the country account for 39 percent of the world's total, according to data published by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
About 4.7 percent of Mexicans have used marijuana, according to UN reports.
