The Bolivian National Electoral Court (CNE) inaugurated on Sunday the general elections at 07:15 a.m. (1115 GMT) and urged the people to show their democratic aptitudes.

The event was hosted at the CNE facilities, with the attendance of Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Farcia Libnera, Ministers, politicians, diplomats, observers and reporters.

During the ceremony, CNE President, Antonio Costas guaranteed transparent elections due to the new Biometric Census.

"We knew the responsibility we had, we have achieved a census in a record time, to guarantee elections abroad, to massively include the indigenous peoples and to give transparency," Costas said.

Costas urged the Bolivian political parties and people in general to make to this electoral process a historical day by showing democratic maturity, and to make of this day a party, avoiding any kind of provocations.

More than 5.1 million Bolivians were registered to vote and decide if they will reelect incumbent President Evo Morales or chose another President. They will also vote for a Vice President, 130 deputies and 36 senators to the new Multi National Assembly (Congress).

In five departments (Chuquisaca, La Paz, Oruro, Potosi and Santa Cruz), there will also be a referendum on autonomy.

For the first time, Bolivians living in the United States, Spain, Argentina and Brazil will vote in the elections.
