Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and her visiting Paraguayan counterpart Fernando Lugo on Wednesday signed a technical cooperation agenda.

The agenda is for the period of 2010-2011 and "it is added to the already valid programs." It was geared to social protection of the rural and urban areas of both countries, Bachelet said.

Bachelet said that "in the last years we have met many times with President Lugo and have signed a large-scale cooperation agenda, which is reviewed and updated today."

Bachelet said they also discussed the state of the democracy in the region, and both agreed that Latin America is having the most extensive democratic period in history.

Bachelet said she and Lugo are also concerned about many democracies in the region, especially that in Honduras where a coup on June 28 ousted Honduran President Manuel Zelaya.
