An emergency vaccination campaign began in Haiti's capital on Monday, according to the Red Cross, which is involved in the effort.

The Red Cross expects to vaccinate 1,800 on Monday on the former airport runway in Port-au-Prince where an estimated 30,000 people are living.

The campaign hopes to vaccinate 140,000 against measles over two weeks in the Port-au-Prince area.

It constitutes a joint endeavor by the Haitian Ministry of Health, UNICEF, the International Federation of the Red Cross and the Pan American Health Organization.
