Visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov donated some Russian language learning books to a local university Sunday.
The books were donated to the Managua-based Central American University, which has a Russian language center.
"I am convinced that the enrichment of the Russian language center of this university will contribute to consolidate the friendship between our peoples," the Russian foreign minister said at the donation ceremony.
Gilda Tinoco, a university spokeswoman, told Xinhua that more books are expected after Lavrov donated 80 books on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, Lavrov and his Nicaraguan equivalent Samuel Santos Lopez formed a special commission to further cooperation in various fields including the fight against drug trafficking.
The Nicaragua-Russia Commission was also to promote cooperation in such fields as telecommunications, transportation, infrastructure and agriculture.
The Nicaraguan foreign minister said that Lavrov's visit would strengthen the existing ties through deepened understanding of the benefits shared by the two countries.
The Russian foreign minister is scheduled to meet Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega later on Sunday
