A small plane disappeared after taking off one week ago from the Joaquin Balaguer International Airport in the Dominican Republic, the Dominican Civil Aviation Institute (IDAC) said Monday.

The four-seat, single-engine aircraft disappeared en route to the Haitian capital Port-au-Prince after changing its route to South America, the IDAC said.

According to the IDAC, the Cessna 210L Centurion plane with the U.S. license N4688Q took off with a false flight plan and the license of another plane being repaired at the airport's hangar.

The route recorded by the international airport showed that the pilot turned off the communication equipment and flew to South America.

The plane had arrived in the Dominican Republic from Miami, the United States, on Jan 27. The pilot was a young man without a license. He held a Colombian student permit.

The IDAC, the National Department of Investigations, the Dominican Direction of Migration and Airport Security specialized corps are investigating the case.

So far, they have ruled out the possibility of an accident but have given no information on the whereabouts of the plane.
