The Inter-American Meeting of Experts and Representatives of Electoral Bodies of the Organization of American States (OAS) was inaugurated here Thursday, with 40 OAS members attending.
This is the third time that the electoral experts of the international organization are meeting in Venezuela, which is famous for its automated electoral system.
"Our hemisphere has its own references to guarantee an equal election, no matter the electoral mechanism is manual or automatic," said Tibisay Lucena, president of the Venezuelan National Electoral Council (CNE).
Lucena said this meeting is aimed to fulfil the obligation of giving electoral credibility to the American peoples.
Moreover, this meeting is a "golden opportunity" to improve the quality of the elections of the member countries, said Jorge Valero, Venezuelan ambassador to the United Nations.
"Venezuela is leading in the new technologies of electoral process. We want to share our successful experiences with the whole continent," Valero said.
