Pop singer leads Haiti's presidential race

Pop singer Michel Martelly is leading Haiti's presidential race by a big margin less than one month ahead of the runoff, according to results of a new poll released on Friday.

Martelly was supported by 60.3 percent of respondents, compared to 38.9 percent for former first lady and only opponent Mirlande Manigat, based on the survey which was conducted by Dagmar company among 5,310 Haitians nationwide from Feb. 6-10.

The singer finished third place in the first round of presidential elections on Nov. 28, and moved up to the second after a vote recount.

He has been calling for dismissals of Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) President Gaillot Dorsainvil and general director Pierre Louis Opont, citing frauds in the first round.
