Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko welcomed here on Friday the resolution by UNESCO to honor the victims of Ukraine's Famine of 1932-1933.
"This resolution shows that the job done by Ukraine, its political forces and diplomats, has been recognized in 193 countries of the world," he said in an interview with local newspapers.
"The international community has for the first time taken a large-scale consolidated decision regarding the recognition of the Famine of 1932-1933," Yuschenko said.
According to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, the 34th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, which has 193 member states, on Thursday unanimously adopted the resolution to honor the victims of 1930s famine in Ukraine.
It was reported that the famine left millions of Ukrainians to die in their homes or in the street.
