Czech military instructors will train Iraqi tank forces in combat vehicle battle exercises next year, Czech Deputy Defense Minister Martin Bartak said on Thursday.
Some 20 Czech instructors will be involved with "training both the army and the police," Bartak told the Czech news agency CTK.
Iraqi combat vehicles will be used for the training, he said, adding that like the Czechs, the Iraqi armed forces also use T-72 tanks.
The Czech military has a 100-strong contingent involved in the training of Iraqi soldiers as part of the NATO training mission in Baghdad but it is expected to reduce its military presence in the country.
Only the 20 Czech instructors will operate in Iraq from July 2008 if the parliament approves a recent government proposal. Source: Xinhua
