Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Wednesday said that it will be he who will sign the EU Reform Treaty, but that the December EU summit in Lisbon will also be attended by President Lech Kaczynski.
"There is no reason for concern. There is no conflict or even a difference of opinion regarding this issue" between the prime minister and the president, said Tusk, quoted by Polish PAP news agency.
Speaking at a press conference, Tusk added that during one of the recent meetings with the president the two reached "a very sensible and sincere" agreement on the principles of conduct.
"The signature under the Reform Treaty, due to unquestionable reasons, is placed by the prime minister of the Polish government. President Lech Kaczynski has turned with a proposal of attending the Polish delegation," said Tusk.
"I am convinced that this is a very good idea, a very good example of an emerging, in not so easy circumstance, cooperation as far as the foreign policy is concerned," Tusk stressed.
A new cabinet headed by Donald Tusk, leader of Civic Platform (PO), was sworn in last Friday.
In the Oct. 21 early parliamentary election, the largest opposition party Civic Platform beat the ruling Law and Justice and obtained 209 seats in the 460-member Sejm -- the lower house of the Parliament, becoming the biggest winners of the election. Source: Xinhua
