Two Nobel Prize laureates of this year will be absent from the award ceremony on December 10, the Nobel Foundation said here on Wednesday.
The laureate of Nobel Prize in Literature, British author Doris Lessing, could not be present at the ceremony for reasons of health, and the diploma and medal would be sent to her by the foundation, the Executive Director Michael Sohlman said at a press conference.
He added that American professor Leonid Hurwicz, who shared the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences with other two American professors, is unable to travel to Stockholm, but will attend a ceremony at the University of Minnesoto in Minneapolis. Sweden's ambassador to the United States will present him the diploma and medal.
Doris Lessing's daughter Elizabeth Jean Cowen and Leonid Hurwicz's daughter Ruth Markovitz will attend the Nobel Week in Stockholm, Michael Sohlman said.
All the other laureates arrived in Stockholm on December 5 accompanied by their relatives, according to the schedule of Nobel Foundation. Source: Xinhua
