German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk held talks here on Tuesday, aiming to mend the fences between the two countries.
At a press conference after the talks, the two leaders mentioned a number of issues that have long aroused tensions between the two countries.
A key area of dispute is a planned gas pipeline linking Russia and Germany, bypassing Poland. Merkel said economic ministers of the two countries would hold talks to address Warsaw's concerns.
Tusk urged the German government to abandon its plans for a memorial in Berlin to the millions of ethnic Germans expelled from Eastern Europe at the end of World War II.
However, Merkel said the plans remained unchanged, adding she would send a delegation to Poland to explain the plan.
The two leaders were at pains to say they would try to resolve their differences in a more cooperative spirit.
This the Tusk's first visit to Germany after he took the current post.
