Poland's new government failed Tuesday to ask President Lech Kaczynski to end the nation's military mission in Iraq on Oct. 31, 2008 due to procedural reasons.
The weekly cabinet session did not formally discuss motioning to the president regarding the Iraq mission due to the absence of Defense Minister Bogdan Klich, government spokeswoman Agnieszka Liszka said.
Liszka did not know the reason for Klich's absence, adding that the withdrawal of Poland's troops from Iraq will be discussed at a later cabinet session, probably next Tuesday.
Klich said last month that Poland could withdraw its troops from Iraq in the summer next year.
President Kaczynski, who is the army supreme commander, has authorized the mission in Iraq until Dec. 31 and needs to make the decision on how long to extend the mission this year.
