French's South Pacific territory Wallis and Futuna's territorial assembly elected Wednesday Victor Brial as its new speaker.
Brial was the territory's only representative in the French assembly until he lost his seat in the last parliamentary election in June.
Brial, who is a member of France's ruling UMP party, replaces Pesamino Taputai also of the UMP.
With a population of 15,480, Wallis and Futuna is a Polynesian French island territory in the South Pacific between Fiji and Samoa. Since 2003 Wallis and Futuna has been a French overseas collectivity. Source: Xinhua
