Russia called on all political forces in Kenya to resume the dialogue under the current constitution to settle the crisis in peaceful ways, Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
"Moscow is continuing to carefully follow developments in Kenya. We are seriously concerned that, despite appeals from the international community, including Russia, violence has broken out in the country," the ministry said in a statement posted on its website.
Kenya is in tense situation since election officials declared on Sunday that President Mwai Kibaki had won the Dec. 27 vote and the president was sworn in for a second term.
It was reported that political disputes have degenerated into ethnic violent conflicts that have claimed lives of about 300 people, and turned hundreds of thousands of people displaced.
"The situation in Kenya remains tense after the general election. The opposition still rejects the officially announced results of the voting ...Clashes between opposition supporters and police, ethnic unrest and acts of looting and banditry have taken place in various parts of the country," the statement said.
"The African Union, representatives of some foreign states and the leaders of some of Kenya's political parties are offering their mediation services for resolving the problems that have arisen in the country," it said. Source: Xinhua
