A gas explosion in an apartment building killed at least six people in a southern Russian city, Itar-Tass news agency reported on Monday.
The household gas blast occurred at about 02:18 Moscow time (2218 GMT, Jan. 13) and destroyed four apartments in the five-storey building in Zheleznovodsk, Stavropol region, local officials said.
A four-month-old baby was among the victims, rescuers said, adding that one person is possibly buried under the debris
So far, at least 58 residents have been evacuated from the building and accommodated in a nearby company house.
The blast may be caused by one resident that have used the stove's oven for heating the apartment, rescuers said.
Due to poor civil infrastructure and low income, many Russians use oven to warm up their rooms in winter. Source:Xinhua
