The Russian united democratic party Yabloko will not support any candidate in the upcoming presidential elections, the Interfax news agency reported on Saturday.
Yabloko believes the elections slated for March 2 are "not elections but a propagandistic farce surrounding the appointment of a successor," the party's bureau said in a statement following its session in Moscow late on Friday.
"We do not see fit to take part in this imitation. We will understand our voters who would either not cast their ballots or make ballots invalid," the bureau said in its statement.
At the same time, the bureau recommended that the party's regional branches call on their voters to support Yabloko's candidates in the municipal elections in Moscow, the Republic of Altai, the Krasnodar territory, the Sverdlovsk region, and other regions.
Russia officially launched its presidential election campaign on Feb. 2, allowing candidates to start a 30-day run-up in media before the March 2 vote.
The four candidates include Dmitry Medvedev, nominated by the United Russia party and endorsed by Putin, Gennady Zyuganov, nominated by the Communist Party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, by the Liberal Democratic Party and Andrei Bogdanov, an independent candidate and leader of the Democratic Party.
