As the chairman of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), Bulgaria will host a meeting of defense ministers of the countries in the Balkan region on March 11, the Bulgarian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.
The planned meeting, which is entitled as "Defense Policy: For Security, Cooperation and Development of South East Europe", will be the first high-level meeting offering an opportunity for the region to identify the priorities in the field of defense and to review the existing mechanisms in this sphere.
One of the priorities of the Bulgarian SEECP chairmanship is to strengthen regional stability and enhance regional cooperation in close interaction with the European Union. This will be carried out in the context of the current transformation of regional cooperation in South East Europe and the application of the principle of regional identity.
Another important aspect of the activities of the Bulgarian chairmanship is the transformation of the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe and the inauguration of a Regional Cooperation Council on March 1.
