Visiting chairman of the European Union Military Committee, Gen. Henri Bentegeat, Friday called for close cooperation between the military and the civil missions in .
He told a press conference that the takeover of UN mission by the EU in Kosovo possibly presents the biggest difficulties.
"Let's watch things, so that the international community can assume all the responsibilities over the territory during the coming months," Gen. Bentegeat said, adding that close cooperationbetween the military and the civilian missions in Kosovo is essential.
It is NATO that deals with the military issues and the EU that decides to deploy police forces in Kosovo, said Gen. Bentegeat who arrived in Bucharest Wednesday.
Ex-Chief of Staff of the French Army Gen. Bentegeat has been the EU Military Committee's Chairman since 2006.
EU Military Committee is the EU Council's supreme military body for consultancy and cooperation among the member states in fields such as conflict prevention and crisis management. The committee is made up of the chiefs of staffs of the EU member countries and its head is appointed by the EU Council from among its members for a three-year term.
The EU will deploy a mission of nearly 2,000 in Kosovo, which is likely to declare its independence on Sunday.
According to EU observers, the EU Wednesday gave its final operational go-ahead to the mission to be deployed in Kosovo. The actual deployment is to start Saturday morning.
Romania's national defense council in January approved the deployment in Kosovo of 175 police officers and security forces.
