Greece's Foreign Ministry on Monday confirmed the holding of a new round of UN-brokered talks between Greece and the Fromer Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) in Athens on Tuesday on finding a mutually acceptable solution to the "name issue" of FYROM.
Present at the talks will be UN Secretary-General special representative Matthew Nimetz as well as the Greek and FYROM negotiators, Adamantios Vassilakis and Nikolai Dimitrov, respectively.
Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis will make a brief address before the opening of the talks.
The first round of talks took place in the lakeside resort of Ochrid, in FYROM, on Jan. 21.
The name dispute between Greece and FYROM broke out shortly after FYROM gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1991. Greece said the country's name, the Republic of Macedonia, implies a territorial claim over the northern Greek province of Macedonia and could destabilize the region.
