Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Serbian counterpart Vuk Jeremic on Friday condemned Kosovo's unilateral declaration of independence and the recognition by some major world powers, Russian Foreign Ministry said.
Kosovo's independence and its recognition by some nations "run against current international law, undermines stability and security in the province and the Balkan region, and will pose danger to the international community," the ministry said in a statement after the two top diplomats had a telephone conversation.
The two ministers also discussed arrangement of contact between Moscow and Belgrade, it said.
Kosovo, a breakaway province of Serbia, has been under UN administration since 1999. The ethnic Albanian-dominated region unilaterally declared its independence from Serbia on Feb. 17.
Belgrade has said the proclamation is null and void, while the United States, Britain and some other European countries have recognized Pristina's independence claim. Source: Xinhua
