Some 3.5 billion euros for the planned infrastructure projects were already provided, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev announced Monday at a meeting of the Council for Coordination, Control, and Execution of the Infrastructure Projects of National Significance.
In Stanishev's words, there are 188 infrastructure projects being executed at the moment worth a total of 11 billion euros. The fund already available are about 30 percent of the total necessary sum.
"I am sure that in 2008 there will be significant additional funding from the EU programs," Stanishev said in the press conference held after the meeting.
Forty-eight infrastructure projects, or 25 percent of the planned program, have already been completed.
"The main point of today's meeting was to speed up the execution of all projects," the Prime Minister announced, adding that the ministers had been given more specific instructions for the accelerated fulfillment of the EU's Instrument for Structural Policies for pre-Accession program so that a maximum part of the approved funding could be absorbed.
Stanishev also said that 83 percent of all EU funds for 2007 had been absorbed efficiently, which was a good percentage. In his words, Bulgaria might manage to absorb all funds, thus loosing no money. Source: Xinhua
