More than 1,000 Kosovo Serbs continued their daily protest in the ethnically-divided city of Mitrovica on Tuesday while students staged a mock soccer game scorning U.S. power politics.
The protestors marched to the bridge on the Iber river that separates the Serb community and ethnic Albanians, chanting slogans and blowing whistles.
A new huge banner that reads "Kosovo is Serbia" was hung over the major roads that leads to the bridge.
Students played a mock soccer game at the bridge. The game was between players who represented Serbia and countries that are opposed to Kosovo's independence and those who represent countries that have recognized Kosovo. The referee was played by a student who represented the United States.
The referee was biased against Serbia and the countries that are opposed to Kosovo's independence. At the end of the game, the referee ran symbolically to the UN police on guard at the bridge for protection from players angered by his bias.
The protest was peaceful.
Kosovo Serbs have staged protests in Mitrovica every day since the ethnic Albanian authorities unilaterally declared independence from Serbia on Feb. 17.
All protests but that on Friday have been violence-free. Protestors hurled stones, glass bottles, and fire crackers at UN police. No one was injured.
On Tuesday, a border post between Kosovo and Serbia proper was reopened on Tuesday, one day after Serb protestors attacked Kosovo police officers there.
Special Kosovo police units and NATO-led international peacekeepers are guarding the border crossing, said Kosovo police.
More than 100 people from southern Serbian towns gathered at the Mutivoda crossing point in northeastern Kosovo on Monday and began to hurl stones and glass bottles at the police. Nineteen Kosovo police officers and five Serb army reservists were injured in clashes.
Kosovo police used tear gas to disperse the protestors.
Elshani described Monday's incident as isolated, but blamed Serbian police authorities for allowing protestors to approach the Kosovo side of the border post.
