Representatives of both Serbia and Kosovo will participate Wednesday at the last meeting of the Stability Pact for Southeast Europe in Bulgaria's capital Sofia, Bulgaria's Deputy Foreign Minister Lyubomir Kyuchukov said Tuesday.
"Sofia might be the only place where Serbia and Kosovo will be sitting at the same table without negotiating over Kosovo's independence," Kyuchukov said.
Kyuchukov also explained the Stability Pact meeting in Sofia on Wednesday was to be its last in this form, and that the organization was going to be restructured into a Council for Regional Cooperation with a new format.
The deputy foreign minister underscored that regional cooperation in southeast Europe was currently endangered. He also stressed that all countries in the region including Kosovo and Serbia agreed that the Sofia forum would be very useful in this respect.
At the final meeting of the Stability Pact, Kosovo will be represented by three UN officials together with Besim Bechay, chair of the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce.
Kyuchukov explained that Kosovo had no foreign ministry, and Bechay was in charge of the regional cooperation initiatives such as the Stability Pact.
Serbia will be represented by its Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremic. It had vowed not to allow Kosovo's participation in any international forums, and that is why the forum in Sofia would be unique, according to Kyuchukov.
The political situation in southeast Europe including the consequences of Kosovo's independence will be a matter of the talks in Sofia, and Kyuchukov expressed his hope that the meeting would give a boost to the regional cooperation. Source: Xinhua
