No serious violations have occurred in the presidential election campaign, Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chairman Vladimir Churov told reporters on Thursday.

"There were no serious violations in the canvassing campaign, and each candidate had broad possibilities to present his program and views," Churov was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying.

The CEC said Thursday that 2051 journalists from 47 countries have been accredited to cover the election, including 802 foreign reporters from nearly 200 media organizations.

Russia is to hold presidential election on March 2 when four candidates are vying for the highest post of the country: First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, nominated by the ruling United Russia party, Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov, Liberal Democratic Party leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky and Andrei Bogdanov, the leader of the Democratic Party.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is barred from a third consecutive term under Russian constitution.
