A bomb suspected of being planted by the separatist group ETA exploded Friday outside the headquarters of Spain's ruling Socialist Party in the northern Basque region, but there were no reports of casualties, local media reported.
The bomb went off in the town of Derio around 1:00 a.m. local time (0000 GMT), after the ambulance services received a telephone warning in the name of ETA, National Radio said.
Police managed to evacuate residents out of buildings in the area before the blast, the report said.
The explosion came ahead of Spain's March 9 parliamentary elections. It was the second bombing suspected to be planted by ETA within a week.
On Feb. 21, Spain raised its anti-terrorism alert to the maximum level before the March 9 elections.
ETA, which was classified as a terrorist group by the United States and the European Union, has killed hundreds of people in its four-decade-old violent campaign to seek independence for a Basque state. Source: Xinhua
