The Czech national power utility CEZ declared the state of emergency in four regions due to the ongoing storm that claims two victims and caused blackouts, CEZ spokesman Ladislav Kriz said on Saturday.

The storm with hails and strong wind that moved across the Czech Republic swept the Plzensky, Karlovarsky, Kralovehradecky and Pardubicky regions in the morning. The same situation is in the East Bohemian district of Semily.

The powerful wind exceeded 35 meters per second and in the mountains up to 40 meters per second, reaching the strength of a hurricane. The storm has claimed two lives. In Sadska, Central Bohemia area, a corrugated iron fell on a man who succumbed to serious injuries at the cemetery and a tree fell on a girl, aged 11, Nina Seblova from the rescue service told the Czech news agency CTK.

Tens of thousands of Czech households are without electricity, Kriz said, adding that the strong wind has caused six failures in the high voltage mains.

Due to the strong gusts, three planes, from Munich, Hamburg and Amsterodam, did not reach Prague on Saturday, Prague airport spokeswoman Eva Krejci said.

A plane flying from Madrid to Prague had to land in Dresden due to the storm, Krejci said.

"These are the breakdowns whose repairs are extremely complicated," Kriz said.

CEZ has introduced emergency scenario in Western Bohemia area. Teams of linemen are repairing the damage.

Train traffic was also stopped on the main line between Prague and Olomouc, Czech Rail (CD) spokesman Ondrej Kubala said, adding that some 30 rail lines were closed.

"Trains do not go on the main line between Prague and Olomouc in the 80-kilometer section Recany nad Labem-Ceska Trebova as energy sources were cut," Kubala said.

In Germany, traffic on the line between the Czech Republic and Dresden was stopped as all trains bound for Berlin and Hamburg end in Decin, he added.
