Dmitry Medvedev has won a landslide victory in Russia's presidential election on Sunday and is to become the country's third and youngest president, according to official figures released on Monday.

The following are some quotes of Russian politicians on the election:

"This victory will be a guarantee of maintaining the course we have chosen together and been implementing together. The course will continue."

Putin told a celebration of Medvedev's supporters at the Red Square, hours after the polling ends.

"Together we are moving forward, together we will win."

Medvedev, 42, pledged to continue Putin's policy on the celebration along with the incumbent head of state. His words were hoorayed by waving national flags.

"My reaction to this presidential election is negative. What other reaction could it be, if, according to the Central Elections Commission, I have only 12 percent?"

Liberal Democratic Party leader and presidential candidate Vladimir Zhirinovsky vowed to challenge the results in which he scored some 10 percent as more ballots were accounted.

"I believe that the country was robbed once again."

Communist leader and presidential candidate Gennady Zyuganov complained, who ranked second by gaining some 18 percent of the vote.

"According to the initial information from the Far East, I have1.5 percent of votes, but I am sure that I will collect more votes in the European part of Russia."

Democratic Party leader and presidential candidate Andrei Bogdanov said soon after the polling ends. His ballots declined to1.3 percent when 73.5 percent of votes have been accounted as of Monday wee hours.

"We met only several times and said 'hello' to each other."

Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said after casting his ballot, noting he regards Medvedev as a democratic man but does not know him well.
