Russia's ruling United Russia party is ready to name Vladimir Putin as prime minister, a top parliament leader said Monday.
"The parliament's majority, United Russia, will doubtless agree on the candidacy (of Vladimir Putin) after submission of it," Boris Gryzlov, speaker of the State Duma, the lower house of parliament, was quoted by Itar-Tass news agency as saying.
"This procedure will take place in the middle of May," Gryzlov added.
Putin is to step down as president and Dmitry Medvedev, of the United Russia, is to succeed him after winning the country's fifth presidential election by a landslide Sunday. The new president will be sworn in on May 7. Source:Xinhua
