Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday wished president-elect Dmitry Medvedev a success as the country's new president for the next four years.
"The preliminary results showed Dmitry Medvedev won a convincing victory. I congratulate him one more time and wish him successes in his responsible work for the benefit of Russia and its citizens," Putin said at a government meeting at the Kremlin on Monday.
"I believe Dmitry will justify the trust people placed in him and will do his best so that new serious results would support the policy for the strengthening of the country, its economy and social sector," Putin said.
Medvedev, 42, won Sunday's polling by a landslide, defeating all the other three candidates and becoming the country's youngest ever president-elect.
The Central Election Commission will issue the final results Friday and the new president's inauguration will be held on May 7. Source:Xinhua
