Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere called on Israel and Palestine to remain restraint to avoid deteriorating the situation, according to a statement issued by Norwegian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

Stoere said that he deeply deplored Israel's disproportionate use of violence in Gaza and the terrible suffering it is inflicting on the civilian population there.

The foreign minister urged Israel to exercise the utmost restraint and to refrain from any actions that further escalate the level of violence.

Stoere also condemned the indiscriminate rocket attacks on Israel, which is terrorizing the civilian population there. He called for an immediate halt to these attacks.

A large number of civilians, including many children, have been killed or severely injured since Israel launched an offensive when an Israeli civilian was killed by a rocket fired from Gaza last Wednesday.
