Britain's opposition Liberal Democrats have called for an inquiry into the Iraq war, on the fifth anniversary of the conflict.
A bill demanding an inquiry over the war in Iraq is tabled in Parliament by the Liberal Democrats, according to a BBC report on Thursday.
The party's foreign affairs spokesman Ed Davey said in a statement on Thursday "The war has made Iraq a more dangerous place at a horrific cost. The death and destruction wrought by this disastrous war ought to compel even the most diehard supporters of the original decision to revise their position."
This was true "whether measured in terms of lives, money or our security," Davey said, calling on Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Conservatives leader David Cameron to apologize for voting in favor of the invasion. Both "shared the blame for this catastrophic foreign policy mistake," he said.
The Conservatives have already called for a full privy council inquiry into the war and have scheduled a Commons debate on the issue next Tuesday.
According to a report by The Independent on Monday, Brown had promised a full-scale inquiry into the mistakes made in Iraq where Britain still has some 4,100 soldiers deployed.
