The year 2008 was a decisive year for EU candidate country Croatia, said Austrian Foreign Minister Ursula Plassnik at a news conference after meeting her Croatian counterpart Gordan Jandrokovic here on Tuesday.

Plassnik affirmed the achievements that Croatia had made during its reforms and emphasized that Croatia should accomplish some undone "homework" in order to be a member of EU.

She also said that, as "neighbors and friends," Austria should always support Croatia's reforms and "will do what we can do from the side of Austria."

Crotian Foreign Minister Jandrokovic was optimistic about the membership negotiations with the EU, which would decide at the end of this year whether Croatia could be the 28th member country of EU in 2011.

He stressed that Croatia would make its efforts especially in fields of state management and the fighting against corruption as well as judiciary reform.

Croatia had been invited to attend the NATO Summit in Bucharest next month, which was a sign that Croatia had fulfilled the "high standards" after long process of reform, said Jandrokovic.
