A man who habitually dodged public transport fares in Germany on claims of being "bored" has been sentenced to prison for nearly two years.
The 24-year-old was caught dodging fares on 102 consecutive occasions between October 2006 and February 2007, sometimes committing multiple offenses in a single day.
A court in the western town of Kleve sentenced the man to one year and 10 months in prison.
The court learned that repeated warnings and fines had failed to curb his behavior, which the defendant said was the result of "being bored."
German public transport does not have ticket checks, but fare dodgers can face fines of 40 euros (61 U.S. dollars) and the offenses can affect their personal credit ratings.
According to figures from the German Transport Association, public transport in Germany makes annual losses of 250 million euros (382.5 million dollars) due to fare-dodging.
