The fighter jet that crashed last week in Russia's Far East region was shot down by a wingman, Russian news agencies reported Wednesday.
The Su-25 Frogfoot strike aircraft exploded mid-air on March 20 during a live firing exercise over the Primorye Territory, killing the pilot on board.
Investigation has revealed that the aircraft was downed by a missile accidentally launched by a wingman, RIA Novosti and Interfax cited an anonymous source close to the investigation as saying.
However, Russian Air Force spokesman Colonel Alexander Drobyshevsky said an official investigation is still underway and declined to confirm the allegation.
Russia had suspended all flights of the single-seat, twin-engine Su-25 jet in the wake of the accident.
The ban was lifted Wednesday.
The Su-25 aircraft has been in service with the Russian Air Force for more than 25 years and several jets will take part in a military parade over Moscow's Red Square to celebrate V-E Day on May 9. Source:Xinhua
