Additional police forces have been dispatched to the Giurgiu-Ruse Border Checkpoint of southern Romania for the NATO Summit due in capital Bucharest over April 2-4, police said on Wednesday.
According to the Chief of the Giurgiu County Inspectorate of the Border Police (IJPG) Marian Popescu, the supplementation of the troops was necessary in the context of the NATO Summit, with the personal data of every person crossing the border to be checked by a computer, which was not the usual procedure before the special measures for the summit were implemented.
With regard to the decision to turn to the yellow code (moderate) from blue (cautious) in terms of the terrorist alert on the Romanian territory, such anti-terrorist measures are taken at the border on a regular basis, with the authorities checking that illegal weapons should not be introduced in Romania.
In this context and taking into account the existing warnings registered with the border police database, 4 of the 6 German citizens who had been rejected while trying to enter Romania on March 20 through the Calafat checkpoint were again barred from entering Romania at the Giurgiu checkpoint on Tuesday.
According to the data held by the border police, the 4 German citizens belong to an anarchist organization from Germany which aims at organizing potentially violent protest rallies in Romania on the occasion of the summit. The Romanian border police denied them entry to Romania and sent them back to Bulgaria.
