Cyprus' two communities agreed on Wednesday to set up 13 working groups and technical committees to prepare for full-fledged reunification talks, which are expected to restart in three months.
According to a statement issued by the UN office in Cyprus, advisors to the leaders of Greek and Turkish communities met for the second time this week, finalizing the framework of preparatory negotiations.
Six working groups will focus respectively on governance and power-sharing, EU affairs, security and guarantees, territory, property, and economic matters.
Seven technical committees will discuss issues concerning crime, economy, cultural heritage, crisis management, health, environment and humanitarian matters.
Greek Cypriot leader and President Demetris Christofias met with Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat on Friday. The two leaders agreed to revive the long-stalled talks for the reunification of the east Mediterranean island which has remained divided since 1974.
Their advisers started on Monday to negotiate on the framework of preparatory works. They are expected to meet again on Friday.
All the working groups and technical committees are designed to ensure Christofias and Talat to negotiate as effectively as possible once they begin substantial talks.
