Portugal's government on Thursday rejected any initiative to boycott the Beijing Olympic Games.

Presidency Minister Pedro Silva Pereira announced that a high ranked Portuguese government official will attend the 2008 Olympic opening ceremony on August 8.

"In principle, Portuguese officials are authorized and obliged to attend anywhere its flag parades," Silva Pereira told the press at the end of a ministers' board meeting.

It is too early to determine which Portuguese government officials will attend the ceremony, added Silva Pereira.
